2009 Upper Deck Series 2 Box Break (and updated want list)!

Okay, first I have to say that I’m sorry to the readers out there for my lack of posts.  I’ve been in and out of town the past couple weeks and work has been pretty hectic.  I’ve been reading all the hobby blogs out there, I just haven’t had time to sit down and write a post (I know I know, I need to get my priorities straight!).  By the way, I went to the Braves/Phillies game on Friday night, and I must say that I was impressed.  It was my first time going to a Braves game, and the stadium atmosphere puts my Great American Ballpark to shame (maybe if the Reds would actually field a team in the second half of a season I would think otherwise, but that’s neither here nor there).  I remember watching the ’95 World Series as a kid with my dad and watching them do the Tomahawk chop…watching it (and doing it) in person was amazing.  If you’ve never been I highly recommend it.

On to my box break!  Okay, so I bought a hobby box of UD series 2 a couple weeks back and I’m just now getting to making a post about it.  I bought it for something like $75 or $80 from my local hobby shop that has since closed down.  I won’t bother to bore you much with the base cards other than to say my want list is now updated.  I didn’t get any doubles which is good, but I’m still about 20% (100 cards or so) away from finishing the set.  I think I will probably go ahead and finish series 1 as well, but all I’ve bought so far is a blaster so I will probably pick up another hobby box and post my want list for series 1 after that.

Anyways, on to the non-base cards:

First we have two Goodwin Champions preview cards (Ichiro and Bill Rodgers).  I wasn’t planning on starting a brand new set in 2009 as I wanted to work on organizing everything I do have and getting all my want lists up, but I’ll admit, these cards do look pretty nice.  Once I figure out how many cards are in the set, and how much the boxes cost, I make have to make a run at building this set.

I also received an O-Pee-Chee preview Beckett which I’ll probably send off to some Red Sox lover.  I was happy with the Kyle Gibson USA Baseball jersey card.  This guy should end up a stud for the Twins in a few years so we will see.  Lastly, there is a gold parallel of Brad Ziegler that is numbered to 99.

Next up is the 20th anniversary cards, which I turned away pretty happy with.  You can’t complain about 2 Tiger’s (even though he choked this weekend, although I have to give credit to Yang with that eagle) and a Jr. Griffey.  Does anyone know of anyone actually trying to complete this set?  I have a bunch of these from Goudey as well.

Lastly we have our Starquest cards.  I just showed a few of my favorites because I think these are seeded one per pack.  Anyone know someone trying to complete this set either?  Shown above we’ve got a ‘Silver Common’ Bruce (my 2nd favorite player on my favorite team) and Longoria (future HOF’er).  There’s also a ‘Gold Rare’ Lincecum and a ‘Black Ultra Rare’ Morneau.  If anyone can tell me just how Rare and Ultra Rare these cards are let me know.  For those of you chasing the Starquest cards, here is the full list, and pretty much all can be had:

Silver Common:  Webb, McCann, Crawford, Beltran, Hamels, Longoria, Liriano, Kinsler, Bruce, Papelbon, Morneau, Youkilis

Blue Uncommon: B.J. Upton, Granderson, D. Price, Pedroia, Markakis, Lincecum

Gold Rare:  B.J. Upton, Pedroia, Lincecum

Emerald Super Rare:  McCann, Liriano

Black Ultra Rare:  Morneau

Be sure to check out my updated want list…any of the non-base cards you see above aren’t on there yet, but consider them available!
