So I busted my first case of Ginter last night…it was decent, but nothing that left me begging for more. My first box was missing a hit which worried me because I thought they all would end up that way. The collation on this product is definitely interesting. I got three Ian Kinsler bat relics and got two Ryan Howard jersey cards (with pinstripe). Some base cards I felt like I got 15 of, some I felt like I got 2 of. My first half of the case only resulted in me pulling 1 of my card #165. My second half resulted in me pulling 6, including an A&G back mini. My case hit was a Tim Hudson rip card, and I couldn’t withold myself from ripping (I was never good around Christmas time!). I ended up pulling a red auto /10 of the marathon runner champ (name escapes me right now and I’m not near my stack). Not great but could have been worse. I’ll give more details on the hits over the next couple days.
The next update I want to give is on my status of collecting my variations. As you all know, I will have 12 variations of my 2009 Ginter Code champion card (well, me and Mike’s card, but you get the drift). I pulled the regular base and the mini A&G back last night…Chris Olds is sending me the regular mini he pulled…I’ve got a black border mini in the mail, and I’m bargaining with a guy that pulled a printing plate. That leaves the no number mini, Bazooka mini, cloth, wood, and three printing plates. If any of you pull them or know someone who did, please let me know because I have more hits and autos than I know what to do with.
Lastly, I wanted to give an update on where I am with the Ginter Code. I have gotten an enormous amount of messages from people asking me to team up, or where I’m at in the code, or asking me for hints, or asking me if I think they are on the right path. As much as I want to discuss this stuff with people I feel like I am too close to solving it at this point to give anything up. This is what I will say about my status…I feel confident that I have worked through the first couple layers of the code and I’m on the 2nd to last step. I’m fairly positive I know what the last step will be, but I need details from my current step to complete it. The problem is, I’m completely stuck. Granted, I haven’t had a ton of time to work on it the past couple days because I’ve been so busy at work, but hopefully I’ll squeeze in some time late tonight that may help push me over the edge and get this thing finished. If I haven’t solved it by the end of the week, I might just cave and team up with whoever I think is the furthest and tell them everything I know, hoping they have a fresh eye to get to that next step.
Lastly, for those of you requesting auto’s TTM, I’ve got no problem doing them, I just need to set up a P.O. box, and haven’t had any time to do it yet. As soon as I do I will post it here.
Best of luck to all you code crackers out there! I love to hear from you so feel free to send me emails to firstname.lastname@example.org!
I’m going to be adding some scans here that haven’t been seen yet! To answer questions: no, Topps didn’t give me this early…I got in touch with someone who did though! Keep checking back for more…
This year’s Ginter Code advertisement…I’m already chasing leads!
I’ve also got a scan of the full checklist that gets inserted into each box…here is the first part of the base set for now…more to come!
#165 is yours truly!
Keep checking back…more to come!! Leave me a comment…what insert set or other scans do you want to see? I’ve got scans from the mini inserts, etc.
First pack and Chris Olds pulls my base and my mini in the SAME pack…pretty amazing! Believe it or not this was actually the first time I’ve seen this card. It sounds like the 30th is still the date for Ginter to be released…hopefully my case from GlobalSportsCards.com gets here around the same time!
Everyone be sure to check their site out…they GUARANTEE they can beat any legitimate price online…why wouldn’t you shop with them??
Ginter madness is just over a week away, can you feel it yet? When I last spoke with the Allen & Ginter brand manager at Topps, the release was scheduled for June 30th…here’s to hoping for no additional delays. Anyways, I have some great news! In my quest for trying to repeat as back-to-back Ginter Code champion, GlobalSportsCards.com has decided to sponsor me!
After cracking the code last year I’m determined to do it again, and I’m starting off with purchasing a case of 2010 Ginter. I’ve never bought more than 2 boxes of a single product before (last year’s Ginter, coincidentally), so busting a whole case is pretty exciting. Needless to say, I may need some help with the code along the way, so if anyone is willing to pitch in, let me know!
Another reason for purchasing an entire case is because I will have my own card in the set! That’s right, card #165 belongs to yours truly, and I can’t wait to bust open a pack and see my mugshot starting right back at me. What a feeling that will be! I believe there are 12 variations (base, mini base, A&G back mini, black border mini, Bazooka back mini, no number mini, silk mini, wood mini, and four printing plates), and I’m going to do my best to collect them all. I would love your help with this! After busting a case I should have plenty of trade bait!
Last but not least, I’ve had a pretty big response already from people asking if I’m willing to sign my card TTM. Short answer: YES!! I won’t be charging money either, just some help either working on my want lists (will be updated soon) or help tracking down the variations of my card! Details on the TTM auto will be posted soon. A couple people have asked me about doing a special set of red or gold auto’s that would be limited in number. I’m not opposed to it but I’m only going to do it if there is an interest in that kind of thing.
Finally, I can’t forget about my sponsor, of who you will learn more of over the coming weeks. If you’ve never heard of Global Sports Cards, they are the group who sold the case that the $16,000 Strasburg super-refractor came out of. Also, their owner tells me that they will beat ANY legitimate price online for boxes or cases. I don’t know about you, but that sounds too good to pass up, even if they weren’t sponsoring my chase! Everyone be sure to check them out!
I was making my rounds through some card forums this morning trying to learn everything I can about this year’s Ginter set, and came upon an awesome discovery. If any of you are around my age (born in early 80s, started collecting in mid-80s) you are well aware of the infamous 1990 Topps card of Frank Thomas with no name on the front:
It turns out, there are several cards that had this issue, it just so happens that it was some sort of printing error, and luckily Frank was the only card of the bunch to have this error fall completely over his name plate. It is a very long read but well worth it if you were into this sort of card back in the day!

Everyone – sorry for the lack of updates and I appreciate all the people who have emailed me to catch up. I wanted to give everyone an update on the Ginter Code Champion card in the 2010 set.
First, I regretfully have to inform you that Mike won’t be on the front of the card. The card can really only fit one person and maintain the quality that Allen & Ginter expects, thus I will be the only person on the front as I was the person to submit the final answer.
However, I believe Mike will still have a blurb on the back of the card, so he won’t be fully escaping glory of being a co-champ.
From what I’ve been told, and this should be news to everyone, my card will be #165 in the set. I’ve also been told that A&G will be released on June 30, so just over three weeks from now.
As for all of the people who have asked me about TTM autographing my card if they pull it, I’m more than happy to do so, and wouldn’t think of charging money for it. All I ask is for you to also send one card from my want list with my card (I’ll update my want list before the set is released)! I will also be working on a “Rainbow” (if you can really even call it that) of my card, so any help with that would be much appreciated!
As Mike is going to have a blurb on the back of the card, don’t hesitate to reach out to him to have him sign the back!
Last but not least, I’m taking a run at the 2010 Ginter Code, and if anyone is interested in helping out, let me know!
As soon as I get any further updates on anything I’ll be sure to let everyone know.
